My approach

My approach is non-judgmental, direct but warm, and genuine. I’m here to keep you moving forward. I have specialized training in Problematic Sexual Behaviors (PSB), working with Partners of PSB, Emotional Dependency, and recovery from Trauma. I draw on the teachings of Modern Attachment Theory, 12-Step Recovery, and Mindfulness, assisting you in becoming more grounded, authentic, and fulfilled your life and relationships. I am Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) trained and implement this approach in effort to help slow down physiological upsets often resulting from single-instance trauma. I tailor my sessions to meet your current needs, work collaboratively with you to create goals, and keep you moving towards them.

General Background                                                        

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT 84268) and adjunct supervisor at The Wright Institute in Berkeley. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in General Psychology from San Francisco State University, and my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. In addition to seeing clients, I travel around the country providing lectures on affect regulation and attachment, write articles, and enjoy spending time with family.

I've studied with the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) and have been certified by Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS). This background supports me as I provide knowledgable, compassionate sex therapy, treating women, men, and couples (as well as betrayed intimate partners and families) struggling with Problematic Sexual Behaviors.

What is Sex Therapy? 

Sex therapy is helping individuals or couples get curious about a presenting sexual challenge when there is no medical etiology (or as a complement to medical treatment). I help people reclaim, reinvigorate and/or meet their sexuality for the first time. 

Some issues treated: Premarital anxiety, New Parent shifts, gender concerns, aging concerns, long-term partner concerns, painful sex, low sex desire, and high sexual avoidance.

Problematic Sexual Behavior is an umbrella term used to cover a wide range of more specific and upsetting sexual behaviors such as:

  •  Sexual Addiction
  • Hypersexuality
  • compulsive pornography use
  • infidelity
  • sex/arousal challenges
  • intimate partnership aversion
  • anxiety or depression around sexuality, and intimate partnerships. 

Problematic Sexual Behavior may include compulsive repetition and preoccupation with sexual or romantic thoughts/fantasies, urges, and behaviors. This may look like someone using sex or love to reduce stressful experiences in his/her life, or to avoid unpleasant feelings (loneliness, anxiety, and depression). This may be someone who truly believes all he/she has to offer in partnership is sexuality.

Many of my clients report that despite negative consequences, they have felt unable to control the frequency of their sexual/romantic fantasies, urges, behaviors. They continue to participate in behaviors placing themselves and loved ones at emotional and/or physical risk. A main sign of Problematic Sexual Behavior is that you've reported it's negatively impacting your social, emotional, occupational, or relational functioning. I'm not here to sit in judgement of your struggle. My hope is to help you in exploring and reducing behaviors that are not OK with you.

After our time together, my clients report significant improvement in personal relationships, social activities, work, and other important areas of life. Where they once felt feelings of guilt, shame, sadness, regret, or constant fear about being caught or exposed, they now feel hope, recovery, strength, and authenticity.
